Week 9 Thing # 23

Hurrah, I am done. I was beginning to think I would never get here. I really like the ZohoWriter, numerous times I have tried to open documents only to be told that I don't have the correct software. This will eliminate that problem. It was also just as easy to use as the microsoft products that I am familiar with. There were several of the things that I had no desire to learn about and doubt that I will ever use. On the other hand there are others that are very interesting and fun. The Avatar is one that I have no idea what I would ever use it for, but it was fun creating it. I can see where YouTube has it's uses (my son acutally had to watch several video clips on it for an on-line Sociology class he took this summer), but some of it is ridiculous. It is good to know a little bit about all of these things, so they we at least know what people are talking about. One of things I didn't like was needing to register for everthing separately. I understand that they are all seperate sites, but a universal login would have cut down on alot of the time needed to complete the program. Yes, I would participate in another program like this, if I had the time, there were many good points addressed.

Week 9 Thing # 22

I established an account with the Netlibrary. It was easy to set up and navigate. I do not think that this is a resource that I will use, although I can see the need for some people.

Week 9 Thing # 21

I couldn't get the RSS link to work when I tried to add this one to my blogline. The link does work when you click on it. It is a podcast about monthly author talks. http://podcasts.yahoo.com/player?s=035aad80a00e3c672fe723f43007a84b&e
This one was easy to add to my blogline, but I also gave you the link from here.
http://feeds.feedburner.com/Storynory

It's amazing how many different podcasts are out there. I found sites from children's materials to porn. It's kind of scary how easy it all is to navigate, especially when you think how smart our kids are with knowing their way around the web.

Week 9 Thing # 20

Hi there 23 thinger's I found a dandy on youtube. I'll bet you never knew that there is a national underwear day. Well I found it on youtube. Just click on the link and enjoy. I think some people have way to much time on their hands. http://youtube.com/watch?v=MtiUX2l3LaI

Week 8 Thing # 19

I chose local.yahoo.com to explore. This is a site that I have used many times in the past, but I had not explored the different things that it offers. I liked being able to get local information and having the ability to rate the different businesses. I have used it to find driving directions for patrons. They also have a easy to navigate e-mail system.

Week 8 Thing # 19

Week 8 Thing # 18

This is pretty much the same as working in word. Only it seems to me that there are more features. So far it has been easy to navigate. laughing
This wasn't bad at all. I imported whats in yellow form my Zoho writer account. I can really see the benefits of using this. No more worry's about having the right software.

Week 7 thing # 16 & 17

I now have a PBwiki account, although I have no idea if I will ever use it. My blog has also been added into the sandbox wiki. At first I thought it was confusing, but when I took my time and reread the instructions, it wasn't so bad after all.

Week 7 Thing # 16

I thought it was interesting that the St. Joseph County Public Library had tags for stores that related to the books they were promoting. I went into the craft section and went right from there into a craft store. This would be a good way for libraries to have patrons give book reviews. It's also a great way for the library system to keep the public updated on library news. I don't feel comfortable using Wikis as serious research tools since anyone can add to them.

Thing # 15

I found Rick Anderson's article "Away from the “icebergs”" interesting. He comments that his library has had a 55% drop in circulation. That makes sense for an academic library where research is the norm. I have noticed that the same thing applies for public libraries as well. The on-line information is more up to date and can be accessed from anywhere there is a computer. I don't see public library circulation going down though like it is in the academic libraries, because people will always want to read books. There is a big difference in reading for fun and researching.

Thing 14 - Technorati

This one is pretty neat. I liked going through the top blogs, top favored blogs and top searches. Some of the articles were really good information, but on the other hand some of them were pretty dumb. It is an easy site to navigate and I can see the uses for it. The number of blogs that it tracks each month is mind boggling. I can't figure out how so many people have time to do this on a regular basis. I must not be living right.

Del.icio.us

Naviagating Del.icio.us was easy. I can see where tagging has it's good points, but I'm not sure that I would use it myself. To me it is just as easy to bookmark what I like, although I know that I am not getting imput from others that way.

Week 5 # 12

http://www.rollyo.com/debhartman/. I have now set up my rollyo account. It's a good way to find web sites about a particular subject. I found several on scrapbooking that I was not aware of.

Week 5 # 11

I have now created a library thing account. Five authors have been added. These activites aren't as bad as I thought they would be. http://www.librarything.com/catalog/DebHartman

More of Week 5 # 10 - Avatar's

I have no idea how I will use this for my job, but what the heck the assignment was fun.

Week 5 # 10

I just created a calendar using FD Toys. It was pretty easy to do. As you can see I made a calendar using a picture of my Grandson Justin running track.

Merlin

This one was an easy one to complete. I am already familiar with Merlin, but I found some of the places I had never explored interesting. The links I liked were the Gaming, Avatars and Virtual Worlds .

Week 4

Ok lets try this again. The last time I exited this by mistake. Well I'm done my blogline and have added my feeds. I'm on to # 9 still in week 4.

23 things

#2. To me the easy part was beginning with the end in mind. The hardest part is finding the time to complete everything.
# 3. Creating this blog was part of my learning for 23 things.
